Various individuals have become successful regardless of their background and their motivation to be surrounded by positive people. For example, Millard Singleton became a close ally of Dr. Rickets, who then became vice president in 1889 for the Omaha Colored Republican Club. One thing leaders have in common is that they are always open to learning something new. Millard was an individual who worked hard for the opportunity to “level up.” Of course, he couldn’t do it without the help of his partners, which is why it is important to take advantage of opportunities that can lead to success.
This is your moment to take advantage of this informative blog to help improve your professionalism. As we progress in the technology revolution, there are easier ways to communicate with professionals along with finding jobs. LinkedIn is a free online platform that allows individuals to increase interaction and chances to be contacted by specific industries. It is very similar to Facebook, except it’s not about sharing memes. Utilizing LinkedIn allows you to “brand” yourself by allowing individuals to share their professionalism, recognition, expertise, education, job skills, and job progressions.
LinkedIn is a great way to search for your next “level-up” job. Follow these steps to ensure success upon utilizing the app.
Step 1: The first step you need to take is to assess your strengths and weaknesses. Instead of focusing on improving your weaknesses, focus on your strengths so you could offer a more developed skill. It will make you feel more confident and happier in the long run since it involves a personal liking. Staying true to your goals and aspirations is important, so you remain motivated and satisfied in the workplace.
Step 2: The second step you need to take is to understand the app by exploring every feature it has. If you aren’t very tech-savvy, make sure you seek help from a family member or friend. (Your success depends on it.) Once you become familiar with LinkedIn, be sure to edit your profile to emphasize the skills, experiences, and abilities that you find valuable. A professional headshot is highly recommended to have so employers can have a view of their potential candidate.
Step 3: “Connect” with friends, family, and colleagues to make your name known. Connecting involves adding other individuals as friends, which allows them to see your posts regarding a personal or career achievement. There is a message feature on the app, so you can be the one reaching out to individuals if you're willing to! Creating an attractive profile will attract individuals and employers, which can lead to career advancement. Don’t be afraid to speak to others… you may never know the luck you may have upon creating a professional relationship.
There are great results that come along with utilizing LinkedIn, but you have to put the steps into practice. The best way to begin your professionalism is to attend the Level-Up Labor Day Career Fair. It will be hosted on Saturday, September 3rd at the Gene Leahy Mall by Freedomtainment. It is an opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and begin building your connections. If you attend the fair, make sure to ask others for their LinkedIn information to “keep in touch.”
We're excited to see you out at the Gene Leahy Mall, and don't forget about the Tailgating Party at 2:30PM to cheer for the Nebraska Huskers!
